Margaret R. Henkle
Margaret R. Henkle was admitted to the Florida bar as an attorney in 2005 and was admitted to the Texas bar as an attorney in 2002. She is licensed to practice law in Florida and Texas, and her practice focuses on estate planning, elder law, probate, guardianship and business law. Margaret’s extensive experience in these areas enables her to provide her clients with creative solutions to meet their specific needs.
Margaret graduated with her bachelor’s degree in political communication from Florida State University in 1985. Margaret participated in ROTC throughout college as a requirement for an Air Force ROTC scholarship to attend Florida State University. Upon graduating from Florida State University, as part of her scholarship commitment, Margaret also served as a lieutenant in the United States Air Force. Margaret then obtained a master of public administration degree from the University of West Florida in 1992. While obtaining her master’s degree, Margaret served as the president of the Pi Alpha Alpha Honor Society. In 2000, she graduated from the University of Memphis Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law, where she obtained her law degree. Margaret’s achievements while attending law school at the University of Memphis earned her a position on the Jessup International Moot Court team and enabled her to be awarded the Dean’s Distinguished Service Award, the William P. Leffler Scholarship and the Association of Women Attorneys Scholarship. However, Margaret did not stop her education there. Thereafter, she continued her legal education at Central European University and attained her LL.M. in international business law in 2001. This is an advanced legal degree that is not attained by all attorneys.
Prior to joining The Reed Law Office team, Margaret was the sole proprietor of Henkle Law Firm in Panama City Beach, Florida, from 2007 to 2014. She also served as general counsel for the Cary Group from 2005-2007. Since returning to Bay County in 2004, she has been an active member of the Bay County Chamber of Commerce, where she serves as a chamber ambassador and Military Affairs Committee member; Rotary International, where she has served as the past club president and the assistant district governor for Area 4; the Bay Business Connections; and a former member and chairman for Group C of the Business Referral Network. Margaret is also a graduate of the Leadership Bay Program that is presented by the Bay County Chamber of Commerce to cultivate a broadened network of well-informed leaders whose strengthened commitment to community involvement will affect positive change in Bay County. As a loyal supporter of the Covenant Care Hospice, she frequently visits the on-site facility to show support for their staff and the work they do with baked goods she has made, and she attends and supports many of their fundraising efforts.
In addition to practicing law, she is an ordained minister and serves as pastor of Abundant Life Community Church, a nondenominational Christian church in Panama City.
Margaret’s estate planning practice includes the drafting of wills and trusts, powers of attorney (both financial and medical), the care of vulnerable adults with guardianships and other alternative care plans as well as long-term Medicaid care planning and the development of estate plans for nontraditional couples. She also assists executors, personal representatives and beneficiaries in resolving matters related to probate administration, including will contests and creditors’ rights. Her business law practice includes business organization and development, contract drafting and review, employment contracts and hiring, asset protection, noncompete agreements, real estate leasing, business litigation and tax planning.
Margaret is also a member of the Bay County Bar Association, Bay County Women Lawyers Association, Real Property/Probate Trust Law Section and the St. Andrews Bay American Inn of Court. She also routinely writes a legal column for the Lynn Haven Ledger in order to share important legal information with the community.
