Living in fear of violence in the home can give rise to anxiety, depression and fear for one's life. No one in Florida should have to live in such a situation. Sadly, these situations are far too common. A recent series of reported incidents involving a Miami-Dade high school teacher is a current example of an alleged domestic abuse case.

No one should have to live in fear of a family member or other person in Florida. Domestic violence or domestic abuse is sadly an ever present threat for too many people. Protection from abuse can sometimes be obtained through a legal document called a protective injunction, also known as a restraining order.

The risk of domestic abuse is faced by many people in Florida. In numbers released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, (CDC) one in four women and one in nine men are victimized by domestic violence in any given year. That breaks down to a woman being abused every nine seconds. The problem is not limited to any race, economic income bracket, religion or education level.

Navy officer found dead from a possible domestic violence dispute

A Florida woman who was a member of the U.S. Navy and had just received a promotion to chief petty officer did not live long enough to celebrate the promotion. The woman received news of the promotion on a Friday and was found dead in her home the following Monday, possibly as a result of domestic violence. While no details were available, it was reported that she did not die from natural causes.

Domestic abuse has no boundaries

No one should have to live in fear of domestic abuse. Sadly, domestic abuse is very prevalent in society today and knows no boundaries. Anyone, regardless of age, gender, socioeconomic status or race can be at risk for domestic violence. In a recent Florida case, a female police officer says she was the victim of an attack by her boyfriend.

Online dating is becoming more and more prevalent in our society and in Florida. But with the increased prevalence does not come increased safety. There are still far too many instances of domestic abuse that occur among people who have met online. One such case involves a woman who traveled to meet the man she met online. She became a domestic abuse victim.

Victim of domestic abuse rescued by love of a dog

Dogs are man's best friend. In a recent case in Florida a dog proved to be a woman's best friend too. A woman in an abusive relationship was able to use her boyfriend's affection for their dog to escape her situation. The woman, a victim of domestic abuse, convinced her boyfriend the dog needed to see the vet. The three of them set off to the vet together.

Florida man charged in alleged domestic violence assault

Police reports, a car chase and a hideout in a restaurant are all part of this interesting case. Recently, a Florida man, who is a former professional football player, was charged with simple assault and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon after reportedly chasing his ex-wife and her mother. The pair had just exited a police station after making statements regarding past domestic violence by the woman's former husband. 

Celebrity ex faces domestic violence charges in Florida

For the second time this year, Nick Gordon, ex-boyfriend of late celebrity Bobbi Kristina Brown, has been arrested for fighting with his new girlfriend. The Florida man was charged with domestic violence following an incident that caused authorities to respond to his home. Charges against the man are expected to be dropped, as it has been reported that the girlfriend stopped cooperating with police.
